Arnaud RICHARD was awarded the highest distinction on graduating from the CNR of Caen. Eventually he studied with Alain Buet. In 2006 he won second prize in the international competition of Marmande for the category French Song. International breakthrough came in February 2010, singing Aeneas (Purcell) with the Ensemble Musica Eterna under Teodor Currentzis, with whom he recorded subsequently Mozart's Requiem (label alpha productions). He made his debut as Nicolas in L’Ecume des jours by Edison Denisov (after the famous novel of Boris Vian) at the Opera House of Stuttgart, under Sylvain Cambreling (2012).

Noteworthy are his participation in productions of Les Arts Florissants led by William Christie such as : Atys (Lully) performed in Aix-en-Provence, Versailles New-York and Festival d’Aix-en-Provence (2011) ; David et Jonathas (M.A. Charpentier) first as Guerrier (at Aix-en-Provence-Festival) then as Saül at both the Opéra Comique (Paris) and Théâtre de Caen (2013) and La Naissance d'Osiris and Daphnis & Eglé in Caen, Dijon, London, Paris and Moscow (2014).

Recent engagements

include Arnaud Richard's engagement in two productions at ONR Strasbourg: Le Roi Arthus (Chausson) and Pénélope (Fauré) the latter directed by Olivier Py. His debut at the Opera House of Dijon in Wozzeck (1. Handwerkbursche) ; the reinvitation by Stuttgart to participate in The Fairy Queen (bass roles) directed by Calixto Bieito and in Alcina as Melisso. Last season (2017/18) he returned to Strasbourg to sing Bartolo in Le Nozze di Figaro ; he made his debut at La Monnaie in Olivier Py's successful production of Dialogues des Carmélites, with which he traveled to the Théâtre des Champs Elysées and Teatro lirico di Bologna (house debut). Les Arts Florissants took him on a tour to China with Monsieur de Pourceaugnac. The more he participated in a stage production of Pelléas et Mélisande (as Médecin and Berger) at Théâtre des Champs Elysées and sang eventually Golaud in a semi-staged production of Impressions de Pelléas (Debussy/Constant) on tour in Belgium.

Current season

During the current season 2018/2019 he will take part as Saturno in the major project of "La Divisione del mondo" by Giovanni Legrenzi. A new staged production, set up by ONR Strasbourg, ONL Nancy and the Royal Opera House of Versailles. A production that will the more feature Christophe Rousset and his ensemble Les Talens lyriques. With the latter orchestra, Arnaud Richard will subsequently tour with Agrippina (role of Claudio) given in concert version at the Haendel Festival in D-Halle and at Klangvokal Dortmund. Amongst his upcoming roles : Protée-Jupiter in Phaéton by Lully...

the artist appeared at the Opera House of Versailles, at Salle Gaveau in Das Paradies und die Peri (Schumann) under Xavier Ricour, at the Royal Chapel at Versailles in La Grande Messe des Morts (F.J. Gossec) with Les Siècles, under François-Xavier Roth, at NTR Matinee and Utrecht in both L'Enfance du Christ (Berlioz) as in Jeanne d'Arc au bûcher (Honegger) with the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra Hilversum, at Flagey in Bach's Matthew Passion (bass arias) with Brussels Philharmonic and at Festival Radio France Montpellier in Les cris de Paris under Hervé Niquet (2018).

Concert and opera performances have led to fructuous cooperation with conductors such as : Pierre Cao, William Christie, David Stern, Luciano Acocella, Sylvain Cambreling, Xavier Ricour, Rani Calderon, Teodor Currentzis, Daniele Callegari, Markus Stenz, Patrick Davin, Louis Langrée, François-Xavier Roth and Alain Altinoglu. He was directed by Olivier Py, Keith Warner, Benjamin Lazar, Andreas Homoki, Calixto Bieito, Jossi Wieler, Eric Ruf and Jetske Mijnssen. He was invited by Pygmalion (Raphaël Pichon), le Poème Harmonique (Vincent Dumestre), Ausonia (directed by Mira Glodeanu and Frédérick Haas), les Paladins (Jérôme Correas), la Simphonie du Marais (Hugo Reyne), il Seminario Musicale (Gérard Lesne), la Fenice (Jean Tubery ) a.o.

His repertoire includes also roles such as Alquif and Ardan-Canile in Amadis by Lully (Avignon), Uberto (Serva Padrone/Pergolesi), Fiorello (Barbiere di Siviglia) in Rouen, Draco and Mars (Cadmus et Hermione/Lully) at Opéra Comique de Paris, Pietro (Simon Boccanegra), Maurevert (Les Huguenots) at ONR Strasbourg, Il Marchese D’Obigny (La Traviata) in Rouen and Versailles and Sarastro (Zauberflöte) ...
