Arnaud RICHARD, Bass-Baritone

Arnaud RICHARD was awarded the highest distinction on graduating from the CNR of Caen. Eventually he studied with Alain Buet. In 2006 he won second prize in the international competition of Marmande for the category French Song.

International breakthrough came in February 2010, singing Aeneas (Purcell) with the Ensemble Musicaeterna under the baton of renowned conductor Teodor Currentzis, with whom he recorded at the same occasion Mozart's Requiem (for the label alpha productions). With Nicolas in L’Ecume des jours by Edison Denisov he made his debut at the Opera House of Stuttgart (new production led by Sylvain Cambreling and directed by Jossi Wieler, Dec. 2012). With Les Arts Florissants led by William Christie he partipated in Atys (Lully) and in Aix-en-Provence, Versailles New-York and Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, (2011) and David et Jonathas (M.A. Charpentier) first as Guerrier (at the Aix-en-Provence-Festival) than as Saül at both the Opéra Comique (Paris) and Théâtre de Caen Jan/Feb 2013.

In concert he appeared at the Opera House of Versailles with Opera Fuoco (under David Stern) in works by Dauvergne and Gluck. At Salle Gaveau in Das Paradies und die Peri (Schumann) under Xavier Ricour, in La Grande Messe des Morts (François-Joseph Gossec) with "Les Siècles", under François-Xavier Roth at the Royal Chapel at Versailles, L'Enfance du Christ (Berlioz) and Jeanne d'Arc au bûcher (Honegger) with the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra (Netherlands) at NTR Matinee and toured with Brussels Philharmonic led by Leo Hussain in Bach's, Matthew Passion (Bass arias).

Revivals of l'Ecume des Jours led him to Stuttgart again and a new production of Le Roi Arthus (Chausson) at Opéra national du Rhin (Strasbourg). He also participated in the stage production of two of Rameau's ballet music : La Naissance d'Osiris and Daphnis & Eglé together with Les Arts Florissants under William Christie (Caen, Dijon, Londres, Paris and Moscow, 2014) as in Wozzeck (1. Handwerkbursche) at l'Opéra de Dijon (debut in the House).

Recent and upcoming engagements :

Arnaud Richard appeared in two successful new productions : Pénélope - the rarely performed opera by Gabriel Fauré - directed by Olivier Py at ONR Strasbourg and in The Fairy Queen (bass roles) directed by Calixto Bieito at the Opea House of Stuttgart (both during season 2015/2016). The house invited him also to take part in Alcina as Melisso and in the revivals of both L'Ecume des jours (Nicolas) and The Fairy Queen. The more he participate in Pelléas et Mélisande (as Médecin and Berger) at Théâtre des Champs Elysées.

Currently he's singing his first Bartolo in a new production of Nozze di Figaro at ONR Strasbourg. Furthermore the season 2017/18 will see him repeatedly in Olivier Py's successful production of Dialogues des Carmélites, that will be subsequently revived at La Monnaie (debut in the House), Théâtre des Champs Elysées, Opéra de Caen and Teatro lirico di Bologna (debut in the House).

 

In the mean time Arnaud Richard has sung under conductors such as : Pierre Cao, William Christie, David Stern, Luciano Acocella, Sylvain Cambreling, Xavier Ricour, Rani Calderon, Teodor Currentzis, Daniele Callegari, Markus Stenz, Patrick Davin and François-Xavier Roth.  He was directed by Olivier Py, Keith Warner, Benjamin Lazar, Andreas Homoki, Calixto Bieito and Jossi Wieler. His repertoire includes also roles such as Alquif and Ardan-Canile in Amadis by Lully (Avignon), Uberto (Serva Padrone/Pergolesi), Fiorello (Barbiere di Siviglia) in Rouen, Draco and Mars (Cadmus et Hermione/Lully) at Opéra Comique de Paris, Pietro (Simon Boccanegra), Maurevert (Les Huguenots) at ONR Strasbourg, Il Marchese D’Obigny (La Traviata) in Rouen and Versailles and Sarastro (Zauberflöte) ...

He was invited by Pygmalion (Raphaël Pichon), le Poème Harmonique (Vincent Dumestre), Ausonia (directed by Mira Glodeanu and Frédérick Haas), les Paladins (Jérôme Correas), la Simphonie du Marais (Hugo Reyne), il Seminario Musicale (Gérard Lesne), la Fenice (Jean Tubery ) a.o.
