He made his professional opera debut In l’incoronazione di Poppea with Roger Norrington at the Proms in London which led to his European debut at la Monnaie in Brussels in the same opera. Engagements followed all over the world with appearances in lyric roles such as Lensky, Tamino, Ferrando, Don Ottavio, Grimoaldo.In the last ten years he has moved more into the character tenor repertoire with roles such as Tichon, Loge, Rev Adams, Maler, Dr Cauis , Don Basilio, Valzacchi. A hugely experienced actor he brings great charisma to his performances.Philip Sheffield is extremely experienced in performing contemporary operas and he has performed in many world premieres including the role of Alonso in Tom Ades' opera The Tempest, Edward IV in Giorgio Battistelli’s Richard III, Terry Bond in Ben Mason’s Playing Away, Harry in Michael Berkeley's Baa Baa Black Sheep amongst others.On the concert platform he has performed at all the major UK concert Halls and many European prestigious venues such as the Berlin Philharmonie - Britten War Requiem - Concertgebouw, Amsterdam - Sieben Todes Sunden - Vienna KonzertHaus - Johannes Passion . He is particularly associated with the works of Benjamin Britten.Philip has been privileged to work with many internationally renowned directorsand conductors including Olivier Pi, David Alden, Robert Carsen, David Pountney, Waut Koeken, Kazushi Ono, Mark Elder, Marcus Stenz, Paul Daniel, David Parry, Enrique Mazzola, Marko Letonja and Stuart Stratford. |
