As a singer, Benoît De Leersnyder has had the opportunity to work with stage directors such as Ronny Lauwers, Willy Decker, Christof Loy, Guy Joosten, Waut Koeken, Deborah Warner and Keith Warner. These collaborations helped inspire his passion for stage directing. Meanwhile he was invited to assist : Waut Koeken on Aladin at Vlaamse Opera, ONR Strasbourg and Luxemburg, Laurent Pelly on Don Quichotte, Cendrillon at la Monnaie (a production revived by Benoît in Lille and Chicago), Le Coq d'Or at La Monnaie and Madrid, Michael Haneke on Cosi fan tutte at Teatro Real de Madrid and at La Monnaie, Ivo Van Hove on La Clemenza di Tito at la Monnaie and Guy Cassiers on Xerse/Cavalli and The Indian Queen/Purcell - the latter, later on this year (2019) - both at Opera House of Lille.For the Operastudio Vlaanderen (International Opera Academy) he stage directed Mélodies by Georges Bizet and was subsequently invited back to set to stage Franz Schubert's Die Winterrreise, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Eine Zauberflöte, Grido d’Amore! with music by Giovanni Battista Bononcini and Georg Friedrich Händel as well as Entbehren sollst du, sollst entbehren a project around Hugo Wolf’s Lieder. With the Junge Kammeroper Köln he directed Engelbert Humperdinck's Hänsel und Gretel. He staged with a cast of 300 children the world premiere of The Brussels Requiem by the British composer Howard Moody for Le Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels.Another noteworthy production directed by Benoît De Leersnyder is Mozart’s Così fan tutte for Bang-up! Opera. Previously he created and wrote the libretto of Heart 2 Get!, an production based on Mozart's Lorenzo Da Ponte’s libretti in collaboration with I Solisti del Vento for Opera Vlaanderen. He was reinvited by Opera Vlaanderen to create the opera for children Babel. In Hua Hin, Thailand, he directed Franz Lehar’s The Merry Widow.Recent projectsincluded PUSH, libretto and music by Howard Moody for Le Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels as well as Albert Herring by Benjamin Britten for Artesis Hogeschool Antwerpen, departement Conservatorium.
