Initially young singer Cathy van ROY was educated to be an oboe-player, than switched to the vocal department of the Conservatoire where she was first educated to be a mezzo-soprano, singing parts such as The Sorceress (Dido and Aeneas), Prinz Orlofsky (Fledermaus), Ottavia (L'incoronazione di Poppea) and Proserpina (Orfeo) ; Ms. Grose (Turn of the screw). Gradually her voice developed to the JD soprano voice-type.
Since her first Fiordiligi in 2011 she now focuses completely on roles such as Elettra (Idomeneo), Agathe (Freischütz), Contessa (Le nozze di Figaro), Elisabeth (Tannhäuser) and smaller Wagnerian soprano parts as well as second roles by Richard Strauss.

Furthermore she participated in the concert performances and CD recording of "De Schelde" by Peter Benoit, together with Royal Flemish Philharmonic Orchestra (led by Martin Brabbins).
Cathy van Roy graduated from the Royal Conservatoire of Gent where she was coached by Marcos Pujol & Gidon Saks. She participated in Master classes held by Lucienne Van Dyck, Lynn Fortyn, Michael Spyres, Ann Murray, Bart De Kegel and Ubaldo Fabbri. Eventually she was granted a bursary allowing her to study at ‘The Academy of Vocal Arts’ in Philadelphia (2011) where she was coached by Bill Schumann, David Lofton, Danielle Orlando, Richard Raub en Laurent Phillippe. She is the winner of the Singing competition 2010 ‘Gent-Tilburg-Maastricht’.
In concert she appeared in Gloria (Vivaldi), Requiem (Mozart), Carmina Burana (Orff), Saint-Nicolas Cantata (Britten), Liebesliederwalzer (Brahms), Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen (Mahler) She also participated to the creation of Frank Nuyts & Boudewijn Buckinx streat operas "Mira & Miro".
