Mélanie BOISVERT, soprano

Recent and upcoming engagements include: Tytania (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) at the Opéra de Metz, the Soprano (Four-note Opera/Johnson) at the Théâtre d’Amiens and on tour, Prothoe (Penthesilea/Dusapin/cover) at the  Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Bruxelles, Gabrielle (La vie parisienne) at the Opéra national du Rhin Strasbourg, Lakmé at the Opéra de Metz…In demand by the contemporary music scene, canadian soprano Mélanie Boisvert created various roles such as the Nurse (Aliados/S. Rivas) at the Opéra national de Lorraine and Théâtre de Caen,  and on tour at the Festival Musica in Strasbourg and Rome, Céleste (Céleste, ma planète/S. Gaxie) alongside the Orchestre national d’Ile-de-France and conductor Jean Deroyer at Salle Pleyel and on disc for Gallimard-Jeunesse, l’Hôtesse  (La nuit de Gutenberg/P. Manoury) at the Opéra national du Rhin Strasbourg. A renewed invitation from the Orchestre symphonique de Mulhouse had her sing the world premiere of "Le signe" by Frédéric Verrières.

Other recents roles include Oscar at the Grand Théâtre de Tours, la Fée (Cendrillon) at both Opéra de Saint-Etienne and Grand Théâtre du Luxembourg, le Feu, la Princesse, le Rossignol (L’enfant et les sortilèges) at the Opera national de Lorraine Nancy and Théâtre de Caen, Ännchen in St-Etienne and Toulon, Gabrielle (La vie parisienne) in a last-minute replacement at the Opéra de Lyon and in Nancy, Zerbinetta at the Opéra national du Rhin Strasbourg and Tours, La Charmeuse (Thaïs) in Avignon and Tours, Adele in Montpellier and Bordeaux, Cunegonde in Rouen and Rennes…  She also created the role of the Nurse in the world premiere of Riva’s Aliados for the company Théâtre & Musique in Paris,Since her widely acclaimed debut in 2002 as Olympia at the Opéra national de Rhin, Strasbourg, she has been heard on European and Canadian stages in major coloratura roles such as the Queen of the Night (Genua, Volksoper Wien), Zerbinetta, Lakmé, Adele, Cunegonde, Tytania, Olympia, the Nightingale, Nannetta, Fiakermilli... She has collaborated with conductors such as Evelino Pidò, Alain Altinoglu, Jacques Lacombe, Claude Schnitzler,  Riccardo Frizza, Jan Latham-Koenig, Eve Queler... Melanie is also a regular recording artist with Timpani Records (Aucassin et Nicolette/P. Le Flem, Mélodies/P. Gaubert, Mélodies/J. Cras…) and can be heard on DVD/ARTE as la Vierge (Jeanne d’Arc au bûcher/Honneger) recorded live at the Festival Radio-France/Montpellier 2005.

A native of northern Canada, Mélanie followed a musical path in which intensive piano playing and singing always intermingled.  Voice lessons and a piano Artist’s Diploma from the Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto led her to a master’s degree in vocal performance at the Hochschule für Musik Köln in Cologne, Germany (Prof. B. Schlick and Prof. K. Kelly). Her love of the stage and a prize at the Concours International de Montréal des Jeunesses Musicales 2002 definitely launched her operatic career, offering her stage debut as Olympia in Strasbourg under the baton of Jan Latham-Koenig.
