The Belgian mezzosoprano Sara Jo Benoot (°1990) started developing a real passion for opera at a very young age.Thanks to the professional guidance of Lubov Stuchevskaya and Sabrina Avantario she obtained her master's degree in Classical Singing an an additional master's degree in Music and Voice Teaching at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp (2013 & 2014). For her final project at the Conservatoire she decided to follow her passion for Russian repertoire and organized a recital with Russian songs, for which the jury accorded her a summa cum laude degree. Subsequently she started taking vocal lessons with Giovanna Canetti in Milan, followed by lessons with Fiorenza Cossotto in July.
Additionally Sara Jo participated in numerous masterclasses across Europe. She attended repeatedly the 'Corso internazionale di canto e perfezionamento vocale' with Sabrina Avantario in Pamparato (Italy) organized, as part of the 'Festival dei Saraceni', was selected to take part in Anna Tomowa-Sintow's master class at the 'International Summer Academy Mozarteum' in Salzburg, the ones given by Mechthild Georg and later Thomas Heyer at the Palazzo Ricci in Montepulciano at the 'Europäische Akademie für Musik und darstellende Kunst' and last but not least the course taught by the renowned soprano Montserrat Caballé within 'The Architecture of Sound' in Zaragoza (Spain). Furthermore she performed at a masterclass with Sarah Walker in The Hague, and a masterclass and closing concert led by Bruno de Simone at the Opéra Royal de Wallonie in Liège.

Currently Sara Jo BENOOT is a fix member of the Opera Studio of Cologne, enabling her to participate in several productions, both at the opera studio as the ones programmed in Cologne's main opera house. The upcoming months she will appear in King Arthur (Purcell), Nozze di Figaro (Mozart), L'enfant et les sortilèges (Ravel), La petite renarde rusée (Janacek), Das Heinzelmännchen zu Köln (creation) and in Lucia di Lammermoor (Donizetti).
2015 she made her debut at the Flanders Opera, appearing as one of Akhnaten's Daughters in Philip Glass's opera Akhnaten (conductor: Titus Engel and director: Nigel Lowery). The House reinvited her straight away to participate in its Otello (Verdi) - as Emilia - conducted by Alexander Joel and directed by Michael Thalheimer).
This Summer Sara Jo joined the "Integrated Viewpoint Training for Opera Singers" at the Maastricht Theatre Academy given by Ludger Engels, Jan van Opstal and Gemma Visser. Subsequently she participated in the master class and closing concert of the Gstaad Vocal Academy, under the supervision of Silvana Bazzoni Bartoli and eventually returned to Salzburg to join the master class by Wolfgang Brendel and take part in the closing concert of the so called « Preisträgerauswahl-Akademie » at the famous Mozarteum.
More recently, September 2015, Sara Jo Benoot participated in an advanced "workshop" organized by the IVC Summer School ('s Hertogenbosch) - together with the "National Opera Amsterdam" and the “European Network of Opera Academies”. The workshop was completely focussed on the Russian operatic repertoire and taught by famous singers as mezzo-soprano Larissa Diadkova and baritone Sergei Leiferkus, the latter being joined by pianist and opera coach Liuba Orfenova and conductor Alexander Humala.
Sara Jo enjoyed studying, working and attending masterclasses with other recognized and renowned names such as Guy Joosten, Susanne Resmark, Geert Callaert, Lucienne Van Deyck, Carol Yahr, Dmitri Jurowski and Koen Kessels.
Currently Sara Jo Benoot is coached by Lionel Lhote, Bruno de Simone and Gemma Visser.
